Shop for clothing that makes you look professional.

People judge you by your appearance. This is when you make your first impression on a person.

You show RESPECT to the person you are speaking with by dressing well.

When job hunting, always dress BETTER than the job you are applying for. Even if you applying for a minimum wage job, dress as sharp and professionally as you can. Make sure you and your clothes are clean, and fit well. No loud patterns or colors. Use neutral colors like black, navy, gray, beige. These are non-threatening colors that work well when interviewing.

Guys: Sport coat, tie, trousers (not jeans), dress shoes, not ‘tennies’

Gals: Tailored pants, a nice blouse or sweater, a blazer, smart-casual footwear like flats or low heels

Where to Buy These Clothes Without Going Broke

Where ever you are, there is probably several Good Will stores in your area. Patient shopping will let you build an interviewing outfit for a wonderfully low price.

St Vincent De Paul, Good Will, and other ‘Thrift’ stores frequently will receive over-stock items from manufacturers who take the donation as a tax write down. Because of this, you can find brand-new trousers from Duluth Trading company that even have the $65 price tag still on them for only $13! ( I actually just did this!)

A good method for shopping is to shop at the stores that are nearest to affluent (wealthy) areas. The logic is that wealthy people will more frequently donate as the don’t have as pressing a need to keep the items.
